Reading Prediction

Grades 3-5

Many students have goals for the number of words they need to read by the end of the year. Such large numbers may feel daunting, and so scheduling reading time to meet that goal can be helpful in showing the students it is something they are capable of.

Design a Zoo

Grades: 3-8

Students divide into groups, and each one designs a zoo: it must have more than one exhibit, and students must consider multiple sources of cost. Students may brainstorm one of many different modeling problems. For example, how much should we charge for admittance? How do we decide which exhibits are the best investment?
